# Handle Call Started Webhooks

> Handle Simple AI call-started webhooks to learn when an inbound or outbound phone call begins, including its direction and phone numbers.

The `call.started` webhook is sent when a call is created and the agent is connecting. It is sent for both inbound and outbound calls.

### Payload

  The unique identifier (UUID) for the call.

<ParamField body="event_type" type="string" required>
  The type of the webhook event. Will be "call.started".
</ParamField>

<ParamField body="direction" type="string" required>
  The direction of the call: "inbound" or "outbound".
</ParamField>

<ParamField body="from_number" type="string" required>
  The phone number the call is placed from.
</ParamField>

<ParamField body="to_number" type="string" required>
  The phone number the call is placed to.
</ParamField>
